How CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing Works?

CO2 treatment has become the gold standard in skin resurfacing. This technology has been available for a long time, though it has advanced to be far safer and more tolerable. Clients usually only need one treatment to see excellent results.

Fractional CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser resurfacing is a procedure that minimises or eliminates fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, old burnt spots, unwanted pigment. It works by emitting CO2 energy in the form of tiny light beams. This energy reaches your face, where it can effectively infiltrate the deeper layers of your skin. The neck, chest and hands can also be treated.

When the light reaches the treated area, it interrupts the small areas of old, damaged skin. At this point your skin responds by starting to create new, vibrant cells. The temperature of the procedure also helps to stimulate collagen production, an important component of youthful looking skin.

Benefits and Safety of Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Imagine your top skin imperfections peeling away to find healthy, clear skin underneath. That’s the target of the fractional CO2 resurfacing treatment. This innovative method offers many benefits to our clients.

Clients who suffer from skin impairment and other aesthetic imperfections will likely benefit from this treatment.

The CO2 fractional laser can refine the appearance of:

  • Surgical scars
  • Acne scars
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Age spots
  • Discoloration
  • Uneven/rough skin texture
  • Skin laxity
  • Sun injury
  • Enlarged pores

Fractional CO2 laser is best for patients with light skin who have signs of aging, extensive sun injury, deep scars and irregular pigmentation. If you have darker skin, please consult with us prior to treatment as lasers carry a risk of hyperpigmentation. A series of gentle CO2 fraction laser treatments may be a safer option for you.

The treatment is not recommended for tattooed skin, deeply tanned skin, pregnant women or clients who have taken Accutane or another type of isotretinoin in the recent months.

If you suffer with cold sores or herpes, this may affect the healing process.

It is a good practice to stop using harsh exfoliants or any acne treatments 2-3 days prior to treatment.

CO2 Fraction Laser treatments are safe and can improve a wide range of skin problems. They offer remarkable results from one session and provide long-lasting results. They can be individualised to the desired intensity and have a much lower risk of burns or hyperpigmentation than traditional CO2 devices.

The CO2 Fractional Laser Procedure and Results

One of the main benefits of the CO2 fraction laser system is that the treatments can be individualised based on each client. There are four different treatment modes (light, medium, deep, and fusion) and each of these can offer a different result and recovery time. The different modes can be combined in a single treatment appointment on different parts of the skin.

Before your treatment, it’s best to drink plenty of water to hydrate the skin. Hydrated skin responds better to the CO2 technology. It’s also best to avoid sun exposure or wear sun lotion.

A CO2 fraction laser treatment can offer dramatic results but the procedure can also involve a longer recovery period. The skin will look red and swollen after your treatment and will require active aftercare on your part.

You may experience a burning sensation like a sunburn for a few hours after the treatment. Please use icepacks or wet soak to help alleviate any discomfort.

It will be normal for your skin to feel tight and you will see patches or dark spots. The skin will peel when it is ready, so please don’t try to speed this process up by picking and exfoliating.

Once your skin gradually peels off to reveal the healthier layer below, your face will likely be red. It takes several weeks in most cases for the redness to fade.

During the recovery time, you may benefit from using specific products that can be found in our clinic. Your post-treatment skin irritation will gradually fade to reveal your new, revitalised skin.

The treatment protocol involves 3-5 sessions, spaced 8-12 weeks apart.
